Avatharikai
This is the third part of the “Sri Bhishma Stuthi” discourse in the Srimad Bhagavatha Upanyasam series.
In this Upanyasam, Namswāmi elucidates with a beautiful example through the story of Parikshit’s birth that Sri Krishna is a Naishtika Brahmachari. Furthermore, to prevent lust from entering our minds, he explains through a sloka from Yatiraja Saptathi that surrendering to the divine feet of Sri Ramanuja is superior to seeking the Trimurthis.
Through Manu Smriti, he explains the kind of birth attained by those who insult their Acharya, when one should stand in the sunlight, and the essential requisites for attaining success (Siddhi) in Japa.
He emphasizes the need to hold onto the Lord’s divine feet through the pasuram “Vandhana pol varupanavum“. He highlights the greatness of the Bhagavad Gita through the phrase “Ma Suchah” (Do not grieve). He humorously narrates the incident of Lord Krishna being tied to the grinding mortar using the pasuram “Kanninun Siruthambinal“. He also explains when the Lord reveals Himself to us, using a pasuram by Thirumoolar.
While expounding on the greatness of the Bhagavatha Mahapuranam, he highlights the importance of ‘listening‘ and describes the glories of the Sri Mangalagiri Mahakshetram. He details the sastric rules regarding to whom sacred knowledge should be imparted. Through the story of Upamanyu, he illustrates that sacred knowledge should not be offered unasked, and should only be imparted after testing the listener’s steadfastness.
With a touch of humor (hasya rasa), he explains the significance of Paridhi in a Yagnam, the greatness of Ghana Parayanam, and the special merits of offering Thadeeyaradhanam to those learned in the Vedas.
Finally, after explaining the meaning of a Bhagavatha Saptaham, he commences the supreme subject of “Sri Bhishma Stuthi.”

This is the fourth part of the ” *Sri Bhishma Sthuthi* ” discourse in the Srimad Bhagavatha Upanyasam series.
In this Upanyasam, Namswāmi elucidates *why Sri Bhishma Sthuthi should always be recited* , using profound analogies from Periyalwar’s pasurams.
He beautifully portrays the *miseries and helplessness we face during our final moments (anthima kalam)* , using practical, real-life examples.
He explains how the anusandhanam (recitation and contemplation) of Sri Bhishma Sthuthi remained a continuous part of *Injimeadu Srimad Azhagiyasingar’s daily anushtanam* right up to his final moments.
He clarifies the concept of ” *Anthima Smaranam* ” (remembering the Lord at the end of life) and whether it is strictly required or not. He also highlights the vital necessity of having Jnanis (enlightened sages) in this world who can expound upon the Lord.
Namswāmi beautifully explains, drawing from Dharma Sastra, how Bhishma imparted the ultimate philosophy to Dharmaputra through the story of ‘ *Gouthami and Arjunakan* ‘—that one’s own karma (past deeds) is the sole reason for one’s sufferings, and no one else is to blame.
Through another story, he explains from a sastric perspective that *destiny (fate) is real and cannot be altered.*
As the Phalasruthi (fruits of recitation), he affirms that the exact *divine grace of the Lord bestowed upon Sri Bhishma will also be attained by those who constantly recite Sri Bhishma Sthuthi.*

Sri Bhishma Sthuthi – Part 5
Anubhava Pareevaham
This is the fifth part of the “Sri Bhishma Sthuthi” discourse in the Srimad Bhagavatha Upanyasam series.
In this Upanyasam, Namswāmi first recites the highly supreme Veda Ghana Panchathi starting with ‘Devalokam‘. This is known as the ‘Samidheni‘ Rik, which is the mantra chanted during a homam performed with samith (sacred firewood). Just by listening to this mantra, one attains the fruits of performing a Yagnam (Yagna phalan).
He explains the benefits attained by worshipping Agni Bhagavan with folded hands, chanting ‘Agnaye Namah‘.
To emphasize the importance of ‘Uccharanam‘ (pronunciation) while chanting Veda mantras, he narrates the Vedic story of ‘Nrumedhar and Paruchepar‘ and explains the root of the word ‘Rishi‘.
At the same time, he humorously illustrates the significance of ‘Uccharanam‘ through the ‘Jigu Bugu‘ story, an incident from the purvashramam (pre-ascetic life) of Mukkur Srimad Azhagiyasingar.
He explains from a sastric perspective when a mantra actually yields its fruits. He also uses a beautiful analogy to explain how Agni resides in the hands of a Brahmana.
He explains what we must do if Bhagavan is to appear before us during our anthima kalam (final moments).
He specially recites the supreme sthuthi, “Sri Bhishma Sthuthi,” which the noble Bhishmacharya poured forth as an anubhava pareevaham (overflow of devotional experience) when Bhagavan appeared before him.
He explains that the profound meanings conveyed by the Sanskrit “Sri Bhishma Sthuthi” and Thiruppanazhwar’s Tamil pasurams, “Amalanadipiran,” are perfectly identical.
Finally, he elucidates the glory of Gopika Bhakti through the story of ‘Radhika and Rukmini‘.

Among those, he describes nine reasons very specially, with a delightful touch of humor (hasya rasa).
He easily conveys many rare and profound Vedantic truths for us to understand—such as the Param, Parartham, and the One who is beyond the reach of both mind and speech.
He demonstrates with examples what the sheer valor (parakramam) of Karna was truly like.

He beautifully explains in many ways how one must perform service (kainkaryam) at the divine feet of the Lord with flawless devotion.
Through a special historical anecdote, he clarifies what Sreyas and Preyas mean, and what Vairagyam (detachment) truly signifies.
He elucidates the significance of declaring all actions (karmas) as Bhagavad Preethyartham (for the pleasure of the Lord) with an example from the Vyasa Charitram.

He states that the Acharyas have detailed 3360 reasons for Bhishma addressing Krishna in this manner, explaining how the expression Vijayasakhe was born.
Among those, he describes nine reasons very specially, with a delightful touch of humor (hasya rasa).
He easily conveys many rare and profound Vedantic truths for us to understand—such as the Param, Parartham, and the One who is beyond the reach of both mind and speech.

Through the Anna Suktham, he explains how one should consume food for excellent health.
Highlighting the unique greatness of the Lord’s divine eyes (Thirunethram), he explains how Bhishmar and the great sages deeply immerse themselves in their beauty here..!
